Greenman Garden Design ... simply enchanting gardens

Whether you are a hands-on gardener in need of a little guidance (and perhaps a few extra hands),  a skilled aficionado lacking the time or energy needed to tend your own gardens  or someone who wants a lovely outdoor environment but has no desire to play in the dirt, Greenman Garden Design can meet your needs.

At Greenman, we strive to keep your garden looking its best throughout the year, from the first blush of spring to the onset of winter.  The gardens we create, install and maintain are sure to dazzle the eye and delight the senses. Eric Stewart and the skilled staff of Greenman Garden Design specialize in building environmentally friendly gardens from the ground up, using deer and drought- resistant plantings ideally suited to our region and tailored to meet the requirements of our clients’ wishes, lifestyles and budgets.  From exuberant cottage gardens to naturalized woodland settings or kitchen gardens bursting with vegetables and herbs, we work make the garden of your dreams a reality.

Consultation:  Allow garden designer, writer and educator, Eric Stewart, to visit your residential or commercial site, take note of its unique conditions, identify existing plant materials, listen to your ideas and desires, and then offer suggestions and solutions relating to design and planting issues. Our initial one hour minute consultations are offered free of charge as a courtesy to all prospective clients.

Restoration & rejuvenation of existing gardens:  Have you recently moved into a new home or purchased a weekend retreat and the yard and existing gardens are a bit out-of-control--or have your busy schedule and nature conspired to make your yard and gardens look a bit neglected?  Let us tame that jungle by removing weeds, dividing and transplanting overgrown or improperly sited perennials and shrubs.  We also expertly trim shrubs and hedges and remove or limb-up trees to allow for better light and air-flow.

Design:  Allow Eric Stewart’s painterly eye and extensive knowledge of plants to work for you in creating gardens and outdoor living spaces to suite your needs and budget.

Through sketches, photographs, written proposals and estimates, and on-going communications via telephone or (preferably)  email, Greenman will work collaboratively with you to prevent surprises and achieve the desired results.

Installation:  We will build new planting beds, amend existing soil, plant and transplant shrubs and perennials, plant trees and shrubs, seed lawns, build arbors, install patios and pathways, and more--just ask and, in most cases, we can deliver.

Maintenance & seasonal garden management:  Let us assume the upkeep in your garden, whether it be trimming hedges, planting hundreds of spring bulbs, deadheading spent blooms in a mixed border, weeding or mulching.  Of course, we also offer spring and fall clean-ups.

Stonework and Construction: Of course, Greenman is more than just the sum of our plantings.  Atticus Hoyt- Friedman and Elijah Chiam, who have both been with Greenman for years, are skilled craftsmen working with stone as well as carpentry. So, if looking for an expertly laid stone patio or a hand-hewn cedar arbor, Greenman Garden Design can fulfill your needs in these areas as well. We work with a variety of different hardscaping materials to create beautiful and functional outdoor living spaces. Such projects include designing, constructing and installing dry-laid stone patios and walkways, stone retaining walls, raised planting beds, naturalized dry streambeds of rounded river rocks, and other surfacing projects using crushed stone, bare-foot friendly paths of pea gravel or stylish and low-maintenance expanses of decorative stone.  In addition, we also provide outdoor carpentry and painting services, including custom fencing, arbors, pergolas and trellises.
